Parisian Summer 2012

~ ~
Hi everyone! How have you all been getting by with the sweltering weather? I, for one, have been putting all my cut-offs and short skirts in heavy circulation. After trolling my blog roll, it seems like there's a consensus that pants are out of the question. The only places I don't wear them to are at work and Sunday mass (no matter how tempting)!
vintage printed top and belt, SM shorts and hat, Looking for Lola cuff, Dior sunglasses, Parisian wedges
The perfect thing to pair with these old shorts is this super thin and breathable top that I scored for a song during my last thrifting expedition.
In other news, I'm sure you've all been seeing the SM Parisian Shoes and Bags campaign that some of your favorite bloggers participated in. I was fortunate enough to be invited to participate in the campaign but on the day itself, I ended up flaking because I was too sick to haul myself out of bed. It's a pity because I was super excited to check out the latest styles they had brought in!
Luckily, I managed to get a hold of some pairs from the summer collection (a big thank-you to Cristel and Rocio)! These wedges are quite possibly my most manageable pair of shoes with some height. I love the covered heel and the sunny yellow of course! I think I might even be able to wear this to work because of how comfy they are.
They go perfectly with the vibrant print of my vintage blouse too.

Giveaway: Rajo! for Parisian

~ ~
I remember visiting SM Department Store with my cousin many years ago and ending up in the shoe section as I am wont to do. I was quite surprised and impressed with the assortment of shoes their house brand, Parisian had to offer. The styles were in keeping with trends and the price points were terrific! I love that the brand works hard to keep up with fast-paced fashion and now, they're taking it up a notch.
Rajo Laurel on his inspiration for the collection:
"I wanted to create a polarized collection—the paradox of juxtaposing pop culture and art. I love architecture and sculpture, and yet I cannot deny how pop culture influences me."
Here are the mood boards that he used for the collection!
With a limited edition of 6,000 pairs of shoes, Rajo! for Parisian premieres with 14 gorgeous styles. This special collection will be available in only seven premiere branches of SM Department Store: SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, SM Makati, SM North Edsa, SM Cubao, SM Southmall and SM Cebu. With a  price range of  P 999.75 to P 2,199.75, the price points for this collection remain true to what Parisian stands for: high fashion made affordable.
Mr. Rajo Laurel and the awesome people behind Parisian were kind enough to give us the opportunity to give away ten tickets to attend the launch! As usual, I'd like to keep the mechanics as hassle-free as possible.
If you're already a follower on Bloglovin' or Google Friend Connect, then just click on this link and answer this quick survey. Winners will be picked at random. Good luck and see you there! :)

Book Roll + Flapjacks Winner

~ ~
 FASHION
P: Primark sweater and belt, Topman pants, Fred Perry shoes
I like the alternating shades of blue on the sweater which is great for the rainy weather as well as the recent UAAP season games. I think the lone neon blue stripe just below the collar bone really adds interest to a lazy, old sweater.
D got me this belt from Primark. I guess it's like if a boat shoe gave birth to a belt this is what you would get and I think it's pretty cool!
D: Primark top, Pill cut-off shorts, Gold Dot wedges
Love this roomy top. It's so easy to throw on for lazy days and I really like how it drapes and flows.
The mullet-cut shirt packs a punch without having to be in a bright color too.
His (Aldo Accessories) and hers (Primark) tortoise shell sunglasses

BOOK ROLL
Just for kicks, we decided to show you our (mostly D's) latest reading material. Maybe you'll see something that piques your interest as well!
P: This is the perfect little manual to have in your collection so you never forget the fundamentals. From how a suit should fit to how to get a proper shave, this handbook will ensure that you have all your bases covered.
D: This is great for when you're feeling particularly visual because it is jam-packed with photos! All your favorite international bloggers contribute their own two cents on wardrobe ideas.
D: I've only read a few pages of this book but it seems like a great read! I only wish I had gotten the chance to read this before our trip to Paris because it has a list of Ines de la Fressange's favorite Parisian haunts that I would have loved to visit. I guess that's just gives me reason 923834 to go back!
D: This was actually my first time to read a James Patterson book and it was quite riveting! This was a fast-paced, page-turner with a sick twist at the end. A quick and easy read to go in between your heavier literature.
D: This is more of a young adult book which is equal parts dark, scary, and magical. Every few pages feature an array of twisted, vintage photographs which tie into the story. I was surprised at how much I loved this! The ending left me quite hungry for more so I hope the author churns out another one!
D: If you grew up reading the Sweet Valley series, then you're going to want to read this one. Things didn't exactly turn out the way I wanted for the Wakefield twins and the rest of the gang, but it was still closure we all were kind of looking for!
D: An absolute must-read. It's the kind of book you can't stop thinking about long after you've put it down. You can't help but empathize with the characters and lament on how humans can be so sick and twisted sometimes.
P: This book almost made me miss out on the nice French countryside as I was reading it on the train. You won't be able to stop reading this until the very end! Room took on a difficult topic and gave it a new voice and perspective.
D: Here's the book area I share with my younger brother! We're both voracious readers and most of our childhood books had to be stored in the attic so these are just what's in the current rotation.
What's on your bookshelf? We'd love to know what you're reading since we're always on the hunt for stellar books! Hope you can let us know!
FREE PANCAKE GIVEAWAY
Sorry for the delay, but better late than never, right? Using random.org, we did a quick raffle and...
the winner of the P1000 GCs from Flapjacks is Gaby
She shares, "Waffles! I like how they're crunchy on the outside while still remaining soft on the inside, and how the little square pockets get filled up with syrup! So sinful!"
We couldn't agree more! Congratulations, Gaby! We'll be in touch with you soon. :)

Free Pancakes!

P: Dean &Trent cardigan, BKK shirt, Topman belt and jeans, Pedro shoes
The toggles on the cardigan are awesome. The colors are a bit hard to pair but it's a unique piece that really pops.
H&M striped sweater, jones+jones pleated neon green skirt, JS Dany platforms
Bought this skirt at the Topshop Oxford store. The basement floor is made up of different brands (like jones+jones) that consign with Topshop! It was on sale for only 10 pounds so I snatched it up right away.
The layered neckpiece is from Primark and we're actually selling one or two pieces at Looking for Lola. It's very substantial and can spiffy up any outfit. The silver cuff is from SM accessories and has a really cool cross detail that I didn't get to photograph.
H&M sunglasses brings out my inner magpie. Yay sparkly!
Last week, our friends from the Bistro group were kind enough to invite us for dinner in Flapjacks Greenhills.
Cozy interiors and warm colors for the comfort food on the menu
This buffalo chicken salad was a surprise hit for our group. It definitely deserves to be on their favorites list by combining the creamy blue cheese dressing with the tangy, spicy chicken.
Lemon-pepper white fish with herb rice. The fish dish is perfect for those who are counting calories and it adds variety to an otherwise meaty affair. It's also part of their Back Better.. Best menu.
Spicy Texas burger. This baby comes topped with bacon, onions, cheddar cheese and barbecue sauce. We requested to add extra mushrooms as well to round off all the mouth-watering trimmings. The beef didn't taste like any generic patty; it was packed with flavor and cooked well (not too stiff, not too crumbly). This is a solid snack or lunch choice.
The bacon-wrapped pork medallions just edged out the burger as the favorite dish of the night. The pork was perfectly juicy and flavorful. The smoky meat paired well with the black peppercorn sauce (make sure to ask for more sauce on the side). You'd think that for a side dish, not a lot of effort would be put into the coleslaw but this was surprisingly one of the best ones we've tried. It had a sweet, garlic flavor that had all of us raving.
D hates raisins but she was perfectly happy with the bread pudding (with vanilla ice cream) that we ordered for a sweet finish. It was a good balance between a light and heavy dessert; a great way to cap off an awesome meal.
Congratulations if you've read this far into the post! The kind people at Bistro Group and Flapjacks have generously decided to sponsor a blog giveaway! A lucky reader will take home a P1000 gift card to use at Flapjacks!
The mechanics couldn't be any simpler:
1. Follow the blog on Google Friend Connect or Bloglovin'.
2. Answer this 3-question survey found here.
Don't worry about getting spammed, your email will remain absolutely private and will only be used to contact the winner. Contest ends on Friday, September 30!

Congratulations!

Hi! I've been reading your blog when you guys were just starting! I got hooked (most especially with your food escapades) and decided to follow you on Blog Lovin'! You guys look so great together:)

Anyway, I would like to share one of my favorite restaurants, ever! It's called Chariya's and it was previously located along Reposo in Makati. But they moved now to the food court in 168 mall, over at Binondo. Their Thai food is the best that i've tasted so far, and the prices are insanely affordable, too!! I hope you two get to feature the restaurant soon! You won't regret it! plus, when you visit there, not only will you enjoy amazing thai food, but also, you can score goodies and fashion finds at 168 mall! :)

CONGRATULATIONS, DANIELLE!
You've just won the Looking for Lola satchel!

Wait for our e-mail so we can get your shipping details.
We definitely need to find the time to visit 168 now, because we're crazy about Thai food!

Thank you to everyone that joined our little contest
We'll definitely try to check out your suggestions as well. :)

We're backed up with a ton of posts waiting to be published so stay tuned!

P and D

1 + 100

~ ~
It has come to our attention that this blog's first birthday coincides with our 100th post!
We think that's pretty darn cool. :)

It all started with a new camera, a trip to Boracay, and a sudden whim to document our "adventures."

And while we lead pretty laid-back and ordinary lives, it's definitely been a blast sharing our
discoveries and experiences with whoever is at the other end of this site.

This blog is made up of awkward situations trying to take outfit shots while people milled about, giving you strange "what-the-heck-are-they-doing" looks which led to more awkward situations asking the household help to take photos of you instead.

This blog is made up of driving around in circles trying to look for that hole-in-the wall joint with supposedly great food that we read about on other food blogs.

This blog is made up of fabulous night-outs with friends, trying to remember to take photos of what everyone wore and ending up forgetting and just dancing instead.

This blog is made up of countless, endless mall trips looking for interesting things that, at the time, we thought we desperately needed in our lives or closets.

This blog is made up of a handful of out-of-town trips where we tried to make the most of being outside our usual stomping grounds and share all that fun with you.

But mainly, this blog is made up of two people going through life together and making an adventure out of it, punctuated by a bit of traveling, a lot of eating (P), and a ton of shopping (D).

It's been a great ride and we hope you stay tuned for more!
==================================================================

SO. All cheesiness aside, we've drummed up this give-away of sorts to celebrate!
It's definitely not even a blip on the blog radar, compared to epic blow-outs that other blogs give, but it's our simple way of saying hi and thank you to whoever is out there.
The loot?

A Looking for Lola mini satchel in pink and turquoise!
It's perfect for the color-blocking trend that's blowing up this summer!
Do you want it? Read on because it's super easy to join.

Mechanics:
1) Follow us using Google Friend Connect and/or Bloglovin' (if you already are, then skip on to number2).

2) Here at Shady, we love a good secret.
So, share with us any food and/or fashion find that you are keeping under wraps!
It can be that small yet delicious restaurant in your village, or a shop (online and otherwise) that has just opened up. It could also be an area (ex. Cubao X or The Collective) where there are a lot of discoveries waiting to be found. It doesn't have to be something only literally, you know about.
Just make sure it's one we have yet to blog about. We're sure there's a ton out there!

Now we promise not to let the cat out of the bag by putting the comments on private.
Of course, some secrets are too good not to share!
By joining this contest, you are allowing us to feature your special find on the blog.
It's simple, juiciest secret wins the satchel!

We'd like to apologize for coming out empty-handed for the gents but we (meaning P) promise to do something about it for the next one.
